Purpose
Church-owned vehicles are provided to support the ministries and mission of the church. Their use must reflect good stewardship, safety, and legal responsibility.
2. Authorized Drivers
- Only approved drivers may operate church vehicles.
- Drivers must:
- Be at least 25 years old
- Hold a valid driver’s license appropriate for the vehicle.
- Have an acceptable driving record (no DUI/DWI, reckless driving, or license suspension within the past 3–5 years).
3. Approved Uses
Church vehicles may be used only for:
- Church-sponsored activities and programs
- Transporting members, youth, or guests to official church events
- Ministry-related errands approved by staff or leadership
Prohibited uses include:
- Personal or family use
- Transporting unauthorized passengers
- Commercial or for-profit activities
- Any illegal activity
4. Driver Responsibilities
Drivers are responsible for:
- Obeying all traffic laws and posted speed limits
- Using seat belts for all occupants
- Ensuring no driver is under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or impairing medication
- Avoiding distracted driving (no texting or handheld phone use)
- Conducting a pre-trip inspection (tires, lights, fuel, mirrors)
- Reporting any mechanical issues immediately
5. Passenger Safety
- The number of passengers must not exceed the vehicle’s rated capacity.
- Children must be seated using appropriate child safety seats or seat belts as required by law.
- At least two unrelated adults should be present when transporting minors, when feasible.
6. Youth and Vulnerable Persons
- Drivers transporting minors must have completed required background checks.
- Written parental consent is required for youth trips.
- Overnight or long-distance trips require prior leadership approval.
7. Accidents, Incidents, and Violations
- Any accident, regardless of severity, must be reported immediately to:
- Law enforcement (if required)
- Church leadership
- The church’s insurance provider
- All traffic violations received while driving a church vehicle are the driver’s responsibility.
8. Vehicle Care and Maintenance
- Vehicles must be returned clean and with adequate fuel.
- Regular maintenance schedules must be followed.
- No modifications, decals, or equipment may be added without approval.
- Smoking, vaping, alcohol, or illegal substances are prohibited in church vehicles.
- No food or drinks are permitted
9. Insurance and Liability
- Church insurance is primary for authorized drivers using vehicles for approved purposes.
- Unauthorized use or violation of policy may result in personal liability.
- The church reserves the right to revoke driving privileges at any time.
10. Policy Enforcement
Failure to comply with this policy may result in:
- Suspension or permanent loss of driving privilege
11. Acknowledgment
All drivers must sign an acknowledgment stating they:
- Have read and understand this policy
- Agree to comply fully with all requirements
